Therapeutic Massage can help you feel good at any age.  It is especially beneficial for maintaining youthful characteristics as you grow older.  Massage helps improve general health, addresses problem conditions, and enhances the quality of life.  Aging is a normal life process.  Some of the physical effects of aging include a decrease in genral mobility and muscular strength, slower nerve conduction, less tissue elasticity, thinner and drier skin, loss of bone mass, decreased function of the senses, and a less efficient immune systemIt  has been found that chronic stress accelerates the aging process, as does inacticity.  In the elderly, loss and frustration often lead to increased anxiety.  Circumstances of the elderly commonly lead to less social contact and less healthy, caring touch!  The challenge of longevity is to continue to lead a healthy and fulfilling life, while doing what we can to retard the negative effects of aging

In short Therapeutic Massage can be an important part of a health maintenance plan to keep the body and mind functioning optimally.  Massage promotes well nourished and healthy skin, improves circulation of blood and lymph, improves immune system functioning, and improves energy flow.  Therapuetic Massage reduces the negative side effects of stress, enhances general relaxation, reduces muscular tension and associated discomfort,  reduces anxiety, improves sleep, increases feelings of well being.  Since regular exercise is a key componet of lifelong fitness and is known to slow the aging process,  Therapuetic Massage relaxes tight muscles and relieves muscle ache and stiffness, and speeds recovery from exercise.  Massage provides caring touch and relief from conditions common in older Adults such as arthritus, sleeplessness, circulation, and constipation.

A simple massage is enjoyable, however the effects of massage are cumulative.  Having massage regularly can strengthen and tone your entire body, helping to prevent unnecessay strains and injuries that otherwise might occur becasue of tension.  Massage can stimulate your nervous system or calm it, depending on the individuals need and the massage modality that is being performed.  Massage, at its best, has the potential to restore your physical body, and revive your mind and spirit.

Some conditions may have contraindications for specific modalities, however there is always a massage modality for any condition.

Every one of us has brain ready programs that help our body's to rest, repair and grow.  That annoying little habit of shaking or rocking your leg or feet can be moving lymphatic secretions thoughout your body.  The next time the child next to you is fidgeting and moving about, don't get annoyed, he may be pumping lymph!  My patients are very enthusiastic about lymphatic drainage massage.  They don't need to get undressed, they are relaxed, and they are amazed at their ability to stop holding and breathe.   There are a few contra indications for people with lymphoma, or immune conditions.  Please check with Dr. Grant or myself.  We would love to move the ruffles out of your day!

There are so many modalities of massage, that there is sure to be a fit for everyonr.  Even those who don't like to be touched, a simple hand, foot or head reflexology massage can " move the ruffles from your day!"

Therapeutic massage can help you feel good at any age.  Massage helps improve general health, addresses problem conditions, and enhances the quality of life.  Aging is a normal life process,  Some physical effects of aging include decrease in general mobility and muscular strength, slower nerve condition, less tissue elasticity, thinner and drier skin, loss of bone mass, degreased function of the senses, and a less effect immune system.  As we know, chronic stress speeds up the aging process, as does inactivity.    Therapeutic massage can be an imprtant part of a health maintenance program and it helps keep your mind and body functioning optimally.  It does this by keeping your skin healthy and well nourished, it improves the circulation of blood and lymph, (this improves the ability of your immune system function)) and it improves your energy flow.

More importantly therapeutic massage can help you keep the flexibility and strength needed to do simple things like walk, get up out of a chair,  drive your car, climb stairs, or get in and out of the bathtub.  This in turn increases your feelings of well-being, improves your sleep, reduces muscle tension and associated discomfort.  Massage offers  relief for conditions that are common as we get older like arthritus, sleeplessness, general muscular aches and pains and constipation (no body wants to hear or talk about that! )

Since we are aging every second ot the day (only people on record getting younger are Merlin and The Curious Benjamen Button and they still needed therapuetic massage) we should include therapuetic massage as part of our health routine.

Yes I am promoting this modality and especially the RUB CLUB in our office.  This is one of those things that I PRACTICE as well as PREACH about!  Have you been TOUCHed today
